Notes about this item.
Having watched the Australian V8 Supercar series on television, I decided I had to have one of my very own to race.
Thus began the search for one that was flash enough to look really good, but still be simple enough that I could reproduce it in Lexan and still feel good about putting it on the track each and every week.
Thus came the Shell Helix Racer.
As you can see compared to the 1:1 scale photo, I've taken a few liberties with the design. I couldn't find a source for the Ford Falcon in 1:10 Lexan, but since I had a Ford Mondeo already waiting for paint I figured that was close enough - same make at least, and nicely compact and rounded-looking.
All-in-all though, it's not too bad looking, and it's close enough to get the idea across while speeding by on the racetrack.

Update - I've since found a manufacturer of the Ford Falcon in 1:10 - Frewer, a company in the UK makes one. The only online source I've found so far though is in Australia (oddly appropriate I daresay), at AU$42/each. Plus shipping. Overseas.
Maybe I'll stick with the Mondeo for now.
Colours Used.
Opaque Black
Opaque White
Custom Yellow (though not dark enough)
Transparent Fire Red
Opaque Blue

I cut down the yellow a bit with some red, though it was apparent on the first pass that I didn't take it far enough. If I do it again I'll push it further to see if I can match the photograph more closely.

I've passed along a more descriptive (more pictures) page to the folks at Dick Johnson Racing, and they were gracious enough to let me post some of their shots on my site for reference. Thanks guys!
